A number of years ago, the World Stone Skimming Championships was launched on the Isle of Easdale in Scotland. A few years later, the Welsh held their first Open Tournament. This left just two of the four remaining home nations without representation in this most skilful of sports.
Then, in the aquatic hinterlands of the English Lake District, South Cumbria Rivers Trust held the first ever All England Open Skimming Championships in 2008.
The competition is now in its third year and returns to its spiritual home of the Wateredge Inn on the shores of Windermere at Ambleside.
South Cumbria Rivers Trust is a charity which was founded in 2006 with the aim of improving water quality and river habitat in the southern Lake District. Our work is centred round research, education and practical habitat improvements.
We are made up of volunteers from the five main river catchments in the area and we are always looking for volunteers to come and help us out with a huge variety of tasks, including organising the All England Open Skimming Championships!!
